Letter of Intent
The Letter of Intent (LOI) is the first step in the Strategic Partnerships Fund application process. The LOI is designed to help the Grants Committee determine whether a proposed initiative aligns with the Foundation's funding priorities before inviting organizations to submit a full application. It is not a full grant proposal.
We encourage applicants to focus on clarity, strategic alignment, and the impact of their proposed initiative rather than providing extensive organizational history or technical detail.
All organizations that submit a Letter of Intent will be notified of their application status by August 31, 2026.
Organizations selected to advance will be invited to submit a full application, while organizations not selected will also be notified.
Before You Apply
Before submitting an LOI, please ensure your organization:
✓ Is a current or previous Southern Indiana Health Foundation grantee
✓ Is applying under one or both Foundation priority areas

Narrative
Please organize your Letter of Intent using the following four headings:
Organizational Background
Tell us about your organization. Briefly describe your mission, the population you serve, and your experience delivering mental health services or programs. Explain why your organization is well-positioned to lead a multi-year initiative.
Proposed Initiative
Tell us about the work you want to accomplish. Focus on the proposed initiative, not your organization's overall work.
Describe:
The problem you are addressing
Who will benefit
What activities will you implement
What will be different because of this work
How the initiative aligns with the Foundation's priority areas
Outcomes & Measurement
Tell us how you'll know you're making a difference. Describe the outcomes you expect to achieve and the methods you'll use to measure success. Include both quantitative and qualitative indicators whenever possible. Strong applications clearly define what success looks like.
Partnerships & Collaboration
Tell us who you're working with. Describe any organizations involved in planning or implementing the initiative and explain each partner's role. If your organization is not partnering with others, explain how your proposed work complements existing services and avoids unnecessary duplication.
What We're Looking For
The strongest LOIs clearly demonstrate:
Strong alignment with SIHF's funding priorities
A clearly defined community need
Evidence-informed approaches
Measurable outcomes
Organizational capacity
Collaboration with community partners
Potential for long-term community impact
Remember, the LOI is intended to help us understand your proposed initiative. Keep your responses concise, specific, and focused on the work you are seeking to fund.
After You Submit
The Grants Committee will review all eligible LOIs.
All organizations that submit an LOI will be notified of their application status by August 31, 2026. Organizations selected to move forward will receive an invitation to submit a full application, while organizations not selected will also be notified. Full applications will be due by September 30, 2026. Please note that an invitation to apply does not guarantee funding.
